Rioting University students charged in court

Nairobi - 26 University of Nairobi Students arrested in the wake of
protests against alleged increase in tuition fees were today charged with
rioting and were later released on a KES 500 cash bail.
The students were part of nationwide protests over the increment in fees purportedly made by the ministry of Education on Tuesday.
Prosecution said they defied a lawful order made by Police
officer John Kimutai Kimei requiring them to disperse peacefully from roads
that they had blocked within the city.
They denied the charges that they on May 20 defied the
said officer order that wanted them to disperse within reasonable time but
instead continued to participate in the riot.
Two others who had been released on a police bond failed to
appear in court and warrants of arrest order was issued to be executed with
