Nairobi - Unknown people set a house on fire in Manda Island, Lamu in yet another suspected case of lawlessness in the besieged county.
The attack reportedly took place in the early hours of Monday morning at Ras Kitau in the greater Lamu County.
The house set on fire is the oldest in the area and had been abandoned for over 15 years, according to locals interviewed by News24.
No one was injured in the attack.
" I do not know why they have targeted this one because it has been empty for a very long time, Musa Mozimba, a local resident said.
The incident was confirmed by local police who insisted that investigations into the motive of the attack are underway.
Police have struggled in recent weeks to convince locals that they are capable of handling security in the country considering the spate of attacks in the area.
Lamu county commissioner Miiri Njenga says that the situation is calming down after increased police patrols and efforts.
" We are catching up with the perpetrators of the violence and we are confident we will continue to move on the right path as regards that, he said.
So far over 100 people have been killed in separate attacks in Mpeketoni, Hindi, Witu and some parts of Tana River County.
