Protests in Kibera over sexual violence
27 November 2013, 13:59
Nairobi - Campaigners against sexual violence marched through Kibera slums in a peaceful protest over increased cases in the area.
According to reports, more than 100 cases are reported in the slum every week, but no legal action has been taken because they are not reported on time, while some lack tangible evidence to prosecute suspects, Daily Nation reports.
A woman who named a man she claimed raped her seven-year-daughter was told by a police officer who was in the procession, to present her case to court for action to be taken against the suspect.
The protests were part of a worldwide 16-day campaign against sexual violence.
