Nairobi - A proposal by Suba MP John Mbadi to ammend the Income Tax Act to allow those earning KES 38 892 a month and below to be exempted from paying tax, was rejected in Parliament.
The Budget and Appropriations Committee rejected the bid to ammend the Pay As You Earn tax structure on grounds that it would negatively affect income tax collections, yet it would have cushioned millions of Kenyans, Daily Nation reports.
The Finance Bill was however approved, leaving out the proposed ammendments as the Committee chairman Mutava Musyimi seeked more time for his team to make more consultations.
