President Kenyatta wants ICC to drop his case

11 September 2014, 10:53

Nairobi - Lawyers representing President Uhuru Kenyatta in his case at the International Criminal Court have asked the judges to drop it because the prosecution lacks enough evidence to try him.

The lawyers also asked the judges to reject a request by the court’s prosecutor Fatou Bensouda, to have the case suspended indefinetly because she does not have evidence to begin the trial, Daily Nation reports.

The Gambian lawyer blamed Kenya's failure to cooperate for her decision to delay prosecuting President Kenyatta for murder, deportation, rape, persecution and "other inhumane acts" during the 2007/8 post election violence.

On Tuesday, Bensouda insisted she had not dropped the case, but had a duty to tell the judges that she did not have the evidence needed to proceed at this stage.
