Police probe radical's over murder

Mombasa - Police on Tuesday launched investigation into murder of a middle aged man allegedly beheaded by radical Muslim youths in the coastal town of Mombasa.
According to police, Faiz Rufai was kidnapped from his home on Sunday by youths who brutally murdered him by chopping off his head using sharp knife and dumped his body in the Indian Ocean.
His body was discovered floating in the Indian with the head missing by resident on Monday who later informed security agencies.
He was allegedly killed for collaborating with the moderate Muslim group allied to the government. Reliable sources indicate that Faiz was mujahedeen accused of being a traitor and government sympathizer.
Highly placed security sources revealed he had returned from Somalia and secretly abandoned the group's activities and worked as double agent. His body was collected from the scene and hurriedly buried by family members.
"The detectives have launched investigation to establish the motive of the bizarre murder although information remains scanty," Malindi deputy divisional police commander, Charles Rotich said.
The incidents come in the wake of heightened tension and mistrust among moderate Muslims and radical Muslim youths in Mombasa.
The youth mainly from the controversial Masjid Musa mosque plan to introduce Jihad sermons in all Mosques amid fears among security agents that move might indoctrinate more youth to join terror groups.
On Friday, armed youths raided Sakina mosque in Mombasa, disrupted prayers and attacked Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya Secretary General Sheikh Mohammed Khalifa who was delivering a sermon.
National intelligence unit report reveals that youths who also enjoy support from section of Muslims intend to take over leadership at several Mosques in Mombasa.
According to intelligence reports, the youth first made their attempt after they attacked CIPK Assistant Treasury Sheikh Hassan Suleiman who delivers sermons at Tawba Mosque in Kisauni on Oct. 5.
He was rescued after armed youths baying for his blood attacked him and damaged his vehicle at the mosque following the execution of four Muslim clerics among them Sheikh Ibrahim Ismail.
He was accused of being behind killing of Sheikh Ibrahim Ismael, who took over from Sheikh Aboud Rogo who was killed in Mombasa in similar drive-by shootings by unknown gunmen. Ismael was accompanied by Gadaffi Mohammed, Issa Abdalla and Omar Abu Rumeisa.
Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) through the chairman Sheikh Idris Mohammed said they now fear for their lives. He denied that they are working with the state agencies to eliminate fellow members.
