Police hit by roadside bomb in Lamu

Lamu - A vehicle carrying several police officers on Monday morning struck an improvised explosive device in Lamu, an official said.
Northeastern Regional Commissioner Mohamud Saleh said the policemen were returning to their work station after shopping when their vehicle hit the bomb planted on their way along a forest in Bargoni area.
No police officers were injured but the vehicle was "extensively damaged", Saleh said, adding that security officers have left for the scene.

However, eyewitnesses told Xinhua that police officers were injured and the vehicle burnt into ashes.
Al-Shabaab militants are suspected to have planted the bomb and be operating in the Boni forest which extends to Somalia, Saleh said.
