Panic as pupil admitted with Ebola symptoms

04 September 2014, 12:00

Nakuru - The Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital (RVPGH) in Nakuru has admitted a 10-year-old pupil suspected of having Ebola symptoms.

Joshua Saka, a Liberian pupil at Greensteds International School had a headache, fever, and was vomiting when he went to seek treatment at the school’s dispensary, The Standard reports.

The school’s nurse referred him to Valley Hospital where he was later transferred to RVPGH.

The incident comes several hours after the government allayed fears of an Ebola case from a passenger who arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The passenger is said to have arrived in Nairobi on Wednesday night aboard a KQ 550 flight.

He vomited in the plane, forcing the Kenya Airways crew to alert Ministry of Health officials.

However, the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Nicholas Muraguri said the passenger was suffering from food poisoning and that tests for Ebola came negative.
