Officials say all students accounted for in Garissa attack

03 April 2015, 08:40

Nairobi - The National Disaster Operations Center says all students are now accounted for at Garissa University College where 147 people were killed in an attack by al-Shabaab militants.

The disaster center tweeted that all the surviving students have been located and are being evacuated from the college. Seventy-nine were injured in the attack and are receiving medical care.

The attack by Somalia's al-Shabaab militants on the college in northeastern Kenya lasted for 13 hours.

The four attackers were strapped with explosives which went off like bombs when they were hit by gunfire from Kenyan soldiers. The four also died in the attack

The death toll is by far the highest death toll in an attack on Kenyan soil by the militant group from neighboring Somalia.
