New law proposes shoot-to-kill powers handed to police

Nairobi - There are fears that the government’s new laws, if passed, may restore shoot-to-kill powers to the police.
The proposed laws also allow the police to shoot to kill in the event of protecting property, The Standard reports.
In case of emergency situations, the laws allow foreign police officers to be deployed in the country to assist, following the President’s application.
According to experts, the proposed laws may curtail the rights and freedoms of Kenyans and also lead to a possible return of extra-judicial Killings.
The laws are viewed as a set back to the reforms that have so far been made in the National Police Service.
