New NHIF rates suspended

Nairobi - Capital News reports that the government has bowed to public pressure and suspended the implementation of the controversial National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) increased rates for three months following corruption allegations.
Subsequently, a strike by the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) that was scheduled to start on Monday, May 14, to protest the new scheme has been called off.
COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli said after a meeting with Labour Minister John Munyes that they have decided to suspend their strike to give the government time to put its house in order.
