Narok floods death toll rises to 15

30 April 2015, 08:03

Narok - At least 15 people have been killed and six others missing in flash floods that hit Narok County, following a heavy downpour that hit the region on Tuesday night.

Narok County Commissioner Arthur Osiya said on Wednesday that rescue operations have been called off due to the rain, expressing fears that the death toll could rise again.

The police and Kenya's Red Cross Society are among the rescue teams.

Several vehicles were swept away, buildings partially flooded and several roads connecting the county with neighboring areas were cut off temporarily.

Property worth millions of shillings were destroyed.

The meteorological department has warned that heavy rain will continue into May, urging Kenyans to remain alert.
