Nairobi security on high alert

18 October 2011, 15:25

Nairobi - According to reports by The Standard, Security agencies in Nairobi are on high alert following an announcement by Al Shabaab spokesman Ali Mohamud Rage that they intend to carry out reprisals to protest the military operation against them inside Somalia.

Security has been beefed up and agencies mobilized around the city, as Kenyan military forces have so far seized two towns which were previously held by Al Shabaab militants inside Somalia and they have vowed to get further inside.

In an interview, Anthony Kibuchi, Nairobi Provincial Police chief urged city residents to be vigilant and to report any suspicious persons or activity to the nearest police station or police officer near them.

Yusuf Haji, the Minister of Defence has said that Kenyan military forces will not relent on their efforts to fight off the Somali militants who have been blamed for a series of abductions since 2009 and the latest of four European women seized from Lamu and Dadaab refugee camp.
