N eastern leaders launch hotline to help nab terrorists

13 April 2015, 13:35

Nairobi - Political leaders from insecurity-hit northern region on Sunday introduced hotline numbers and email address to which any information pertaining to Al-Shabaab can be reported.

The leaders who have also launched an awareness drive to help curb terrorism in the region said this is one of the measures aimed at reigning on the runaway terror threats in the country.

The lawmakers, senators, governors and local leaders urged the residents to use numbers as 0701632432, 0701632643, and 0701632443 or email address infoken247@gmail.com to report crime in the region.

Majority Leader of the National Assembly of Kenya, Adan Duale told journalists after a two-day crisis meeting in Garissa, the numbers will function for 24 hours, noting that the leaders are more united than ever to fight terrorism and its networks in the region that has bore the brunt of increased attacks.

"Its time we unite as a country to fight the enemy from both within and without," Duale said. The meeting was held a week after terrorists stormed Garissa University College and massacred 148 people.

He asked the residents to take stoke of their youth in the institutions and report any suspicious characters, sympathizers and even financiers of Al-Shabaab on the hotlines.

The government's Majority Leader said that security will be beefed up in churches across the three counties in northern Kenya and other soft targets.
