Nairobi - Newly appointed National Authority for Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) Chairperson, John Mututho, is confident of stemming substance abuse among youngsters.
“I will deal firmly with the issue of drugs and illicit brews that are threatening our youth. I am delighted by this opportunity and I promise to serve all Kenyans,” said Mututho while reacting to his appoint as the chairperson of the anti-drug body.
Mututho’s appointment comes at a time the country is grappling with the issue of drug abuse among the youth. Ahead of the appointment, President Uhuru Kenyatta had pledged to wage war against drug abuse, which is said to be the biggest cause of the increasing number of school dropouts.
Meanwhile, bar owners in Naivasha have appealed to Mututho to deal firmly with the menace of illicit liquor production and the issue of licenses, which they said have been badly affecting their businesses.
The appeal comes a few days after the appointment.
The bar owners called on Mututho not to use his new position to settle “personal vendettas” following his claims that the bar owners were responsible for his loss in the March 4 polls.
