Murang'a - In an effort to bolster the fight against insecurity, Murang’a County has donated vehicles to the central government to facilitate night patrols and the fight against illicit beer brewing in the region.
The donation consisted of five Land Rover vehicles.
“My government is more than willing to partner with the national government to maintain security in the country,” said Murang’a County Governor, Mwangi wa Iria, during the flagging of the vehicles.
The governor added that he was going to take on board the county commissioner and county police bosses to deliberate further on matters relating to security.
During the same event, Iria praised the county the commissioner and administrators for their efforts in fighting against illicit brew in Muranga’ County.
He noted that consumption had declined by 40 percent since initiatives were put in place to curb the problem.
The drinking problem in Central Kenya had reached an alarming rate with the government taking hardstand measures to fight the menace.
Women from the region had demonstrated on several occasions after their husbands allegedly neglected their families to partake in the local brews.
Police have seized individuals and confiscated brewing equipment from the area over the past year but such initiatives have bred mixed success.
