Mungiki insider to testify against Uhuru at The Hague

23 October 2013, 17:57

Nairobi -  A Mungiki insider, P-548, is among the new witnesses added by the International Criminal Court's Chief Prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, to testify against President Uhuru Kenyatta, Daily Nation reports .

A victim of sexual and gender-based violence, P-66, has also been added to the list as a replacement for the two witnesses who withdrew from the case in July. One of the witnesses who withdrew from the case cited security issues while the other cited personal reasons.

According to Daily Nation, Uhuru Kenyatta’s defence team had requested the court not include additional witnesses in the case, citing prejudice against the President.

Following the new development in the witness list, the court is expected to disclose the identities of the new witnesses as well as delay the testimony of witness P-548 till 2014, in line with an application made by Uhuru’s defence team.
