Nairobi - Safaricom Tuesday
donated KES 3.7 million for the installation of water tanks at 50 mosques drawn
from across the country.
Officials from the company said this was in fulfillment
of a pledge made by the telco during its engagements with members of the
Islamic faith during last year’s Ramadhan engagements.
Speaking during the cheque handover ceremony, Safaricom
Chief Executive Officer, Bob Collymore, made special mention of the
amplification of charity and compassion during the Holy Month of Ramadhan.
“Our engagement with the Islamic community is resultant
from our mutual desire to transform and better the lives of the communities
within which we live. It is our desire to continue with these engagements and
indeed deepen our ties with all our brothers and sisters who profess the
Islamic faith,” said Collymore.
Safaricom has pledged to continue its Ramadhan
engagements into this year.
