Nairobi - The Ministry of Industrialization and Enterprise Development is developing an automated performance tracking system to help monitor the implementation of its projects and programmes.
The Principal Secretary, Dr Wilson Songa, said that the tool will specifically monitor the implementation of activities in the key areas of the country’s industrialization roadmap whose broad objectives are to spur growth through industrialization, create general employment, attract foreign direct investments and increase the share of manufactured goods in our total exports.
The Permanent Secretary was addressing Heads of Department and chief executive officers of the Ministry’s state corporations and agencies at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies at the end of a two-day workshop organized to identify key result areas for which institutions in the Ministry will be identified to implement and monitor results in a 100-day Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) through the new performance tracking tool.
During the workshop, the top Ministry officials were taken through how automated performance monitoring software works.
The software flags a red signal when something is not right in the implementation process.
The software, Songa said, would help in identifying immediate performance drivers and installation of performance tracking dashboards which will help in providing real time performance reporting on the key targets in the Ministry’s strategic plan.
The software, which is expected to turn around the way of doing business in the Ministry, is able to identify grey areas where implementation of programmes was dragging, the reasons and those responsible.
“It will help easily identify those public officers who are sleeping on the job and help devise a reward and sanction system to reward super performers and punish those pulling the others behind,” the government official said.
