Minister blames Red Cross for food saga

04 November 2011, 09:43

Nairobi - According to reports by The Standard, Beth Mugo, Public Health Minister told Parliament on Thursday that Kenya Red Cross is to blame for supplying contaminated food to school-going children.

As Mugo issued a ministerial statement to the house, she said that Red Cross failed to notify the ministry of the results of samples of food tested by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (Kebs) conducted in August 2011.

"Samples from Red Cross were analysed by Kebs on August 25 and the results were submitted to Red Cross on August 26 but Red Cross did not notify the ministry of the results," addede Mugo.

Mugo was responding to questions in the House raised following a summons by Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim, on Tuesday ordering her to appear and explain to the House about the distribution of tainted unimix supplied to parts of Eastern, North Eastern and Coast provinces.
