Matatus could be barred from CBD

Nairobi - A taskforce formed by the Government last month to evaluate congestion in Nairobi, have proposed that all 14-seater matatus be barred from accessing the Central Business District (CBD) in a bid to decongest the city, The Standard reports.
The team headed by Ronald Musengi, a commissioner with National Police Service Commission, said the move to phase out public service vehicles (PSV) carrying fewer than 25 passengers from the CBD has been done in countries that have developed efficient public commuter transport systems.
Musengi added that PSVs will not be allowed to pick and drop passengers in town, if the proposed construction of 26 new railway stations in Nairobi metropolitan area is implemented, easing transportation by commuters in and out of the city.
