Nairobi - Daily Nation reports former Nairobi mayor Geoffrey Majiwa was on Thursday acquitted by a Nairobi court of conspiracy to defraud the City Council of KES 283 million, due to lack of evidence in the cemetery land case.
The former mayor had been charged in October 2010, that on diverse dates between December 2009 and April 2010 he conspired, with others before court, to commit an offence of corruption by acquiring KES 283.2 million from the Ministry of Local Government purporting it to be the purchase price payable by the City Council for cemetery land at Mavoko Municipality, Machakos District.
At the time, Majiwa denied the four counts of conspiracy to defraud the government and wilful neglect to perform his duty.
