MPs should take pay cut for teachers' sake
11 September 2012, 16:57
Nairobi - The Standard reports that in a bid to facilitate the pay rise for teachers and other civil servants, Mathira MP Ephraim Maina has suggested that all high-ranking public servants including MPs should get a pay cut.
Maina said it was unfair for parliamentarians and other top civil servants to continue earning huge salaries at the expense of other workers, as there is no justification as to why top civil servants and MPs continue earning huge salaries while the teachers who toil so much earn peanuts.
Maina urged the government to come up with proposals to solve the situation, as he noted that the cost of living is very high and it is hard for a teacher to survive on KES15, 000 a month.
