Looming medical crisis

Nairobi - A medical crisis is looming in Kenya as all medical support staff in public hospitals have threatened to down their tools and join the doctors strike set for December 5.
Speaking to Capital News on Sunday, Seth Sindany, National Secretary General of the Union of Medical Professionals and Allied Staff said “We want to inform our members that beginning December 5th, 2011 if the government has not responded to the grievances in the strike notice that was given to the (it)on November 21, there shall be no single health worker in any public hospital.”
Their demands include a 600 percent wage increase, an implementation of the proposed extraneous allowance which is KSh5,000 for nurses and KSh20,000 for clinical officers.
