Lawyer sues government over discrimination against gays

30 October 2013, 19:06

Nairobi - Lawyer Eric Gitari has filed a suit against the government for failing to register an NGO that lobbies for gay rights in Kenya.

The lawyer, who has been fighting for the rights of sexual minorities in the country since 2010, claims that the NGO Coordination Board declined the names he had chosen for the lobbying group thus thwarting his effort to have the group registered.

He is now seeking The High Court’s intervention into the matter, The Standard reports, saying that the Board’s actions are discriminatory.

Justice Isaac Lenaola has ordered the defendant to file their responses in three weeks.
