Laptops project implementation date extended

Nairobi - Education Cabinet Secretary, Jacob Kaimenyi has said the Standard one laptops project will not be implemented in January next year as promised earlier.
He said the delay was due to logistical challenges the government is facing to get the gadgets the Jubilee government promised to give the pupils during the campaigns, The Standard reports.
He expressed confidence that the project will be fully implemented before the end of the first quarter of next year.
Kaimenyi cancelled tenders for the supply of the laptops saying that the bidders had quoted more money than the estimated KES 12 billion budget.
However, the companies that participated in the tender said the money was not enough to fully implement the project as anticipated by the government.
