Laptop project faces procurement crisis

Nairobi - Bidders who applied for the tender to supply laptops to Standard One pupils in all public primary schools have quoted more money than the budgeted KES 9.7 billion.
HP Commercial is the lowest bidder out of nine companies that applied for the tender. It quoted KES 28.7 billion which is three times more than the estimated budget, while Huawei PTE Ltd is the highest bidder quoting KES 60.5 billion, Daily Nation reports.
Other companies include Samsung Electronics which quoted KES 39.1 billion, Symphony Technologies having KES 38 billion, Haier Technologies with KES 34 billion, ZTE Corporation quoted KES 33 billion, Telcom Kenya had KES 32 billion, Mastec EA Ltd which placed two bids quoted KES 32.6 billion in one and KES 31.3 billion in another while Shen Zhen Auto Digital quoted KES 30.3 billion.
