Land lobby terms Uhuru Lamu order illegal
05 August 2014, 14:51
Nairobi - President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to direct the National Lands Commission (NLC) to revoke title deeds of grabbed land in Lamu was unconstitutional, a lobby has said.
According to the Kenya Land Alliance national coordinator Lumumba Odenda, the President doesn’t have the powers to give such orders because National Land Commission NLC is an independent entity that is not directly answerable to him, The Standard reports.
He said the President should have consulted with the commission on how to handle the issue instead of giving the revocation order at a public forum.
Lumumba also differed with the President over the actual size grabbed land in the county, saying it is not 500,000 acres as alleged.
