Kriegler confident Kenya can hold proper 2012 poll
06 December 2011, 12:54
Former South Africa judge Johan Kriegler has said he is
confident Kenya will hold a proper election next year but warned the
country "is headed for serious trouble" if this fails.
Mr Kriegler, who chaired the commission that
investigated the disputed 2007 presidential poll, said that Kenya has
the chance to break the cycle of irregular elections next year.
“The elections of 2007 that led to violence were
not out of the norm but a manifestation of what had happened for 20
years,” said Mr Kriegler, who chaired the Independent Review Commission
told the third Kenya National Dialogue Reconciliation (KNDR) conference
at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Nairobi Tuesday.
