Kiraitu urges Miraa farmers to seek alternative crops
26 June 2014, 14:25
Nairobi - Meru County Senator Kiraitu Murungi has asked Miraa farmers to consider growing other crops after Britain formally banned the drug on Tuesday, according to the Standard.
Addressing the farmers in Maua town on Wednesday, Murungi asked the farmers to be imaginative and manufacture by-products of Miraa as they sell the product to the remaining markets.
He said the move was very unfortunate and accused Britain of having a hidden agenda in the ban.
Last week, MPs from the region said Britain’s pre-election warning of “choices have consequences” led to the ban.
They accused the government of failing to help them fight the ban in court.
