Kimaiyo wants more civilians to own guns

Nairobi - Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo says plans are underway to arm more civilians and employ additional reservists to enhance security in the country.
He said country’s security will be boosted if the public is actively involved in the war against crime, Daily Nation reports.
According to Kimaiyo, armed civilians proved the need to own guns during last month’s terror attack at the Westgate Mall by evacuating people from the mall where the attackers killed at least 67 people and left scores of others injured.
He said the civilians will have to apply and be vetted before being given the guns.
However, Kimaiyo warned that those who will misuse the guns will be arrested and prosecuted according to law.
