Kigen: ICC criminalizing Kalenjin cultural practices
12 September 2013, 12:31
The Hague - Joshua Sang’s lawyer, Katwa Kigen, on Wednesday accused ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda of criminalizing Kalenjin cultural practices and traditional institutions.
According to Kigen, Bensouda’s evidence seeks to depict Kalenjin circumcision, marriage, initiation and other cultural practices as preparations for ethnic violence witnessed in 2007/8, Daily Nation reports.
He argued that, by doing so, Bensouda would be putting the entire Kalenjin community on trial instead of Deputy President William Ruto and Joshua Sang.
