Kidero summoned over hawkers’ harassment

28 October 2014, 10:24

Nairobi - Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has been summoned to court alongside the Director of City Council Inspectorate to help in the identification of three city askaris accused of harassing hawkers.

Justice Isaac Lenaona issued the summonses after the hawkers said that they only know the nicknames of the three askaris who have been harassing them in the city, and that they do not know their real names, Daily Nation reported.

The hawkers claim that their rights have been violated by the askaris who usually engage them in running battles during their business operations at their designated places of work.

They say some of their colleagues have been stabbed and others killed by the officers who usually confiscate their wares and later sell them at cheaper prices.
