Kenyatta launches milestone coin

Nairobi - President Uhuru Kenyatta has launched a Sh50 gold coin to commemorate the country’s 50 years self rule.
The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) hosted the event at the Kenyatta International Conference Center (KICC). Speaking at the event, President Kenyatta said that the gold coin was a befitting tribute to the country at its 50th year of independence.
Kenyatta also took the occasion to praise the work done by the Central Bank of Kenya and the treasury in playing a pivotal role in ensuring stability of the finance sector in Kenya.
“Our quest for growth hasn’t been without challenges but the leadership of the Central Bank and the Treasury, through efficient implementation of policies has ensured a stable sector over the years,” he said.
William Ruto, the Deputy President, while congratulating the central bank for its good work asked the bank to ensure the interest rates were reduced in order to ensure more Kenyan’s have ease of access to finance.
He also asked the CBK Governor to hasten the development of an enabling environment for more mortgage products saying that it is not right to have only 20 000 mortgages with our current the economy.
The launching of the Kenya @ 50 commemoration gold coin is one of the events being carried out as part of the celebrations to make Kenya’s 50 years of independence.
The main event will be held on the Thursday.
