04 November 2014, 13:29
Nairobi - The Deputy Chief of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Lt Gen Samson Mwathethe Monday revealed that fraudsters have obtained close to KES 45.2 million from Kenyans who aspire to join the KDF since 2009.
He said since that period, some 48 military personnel implicated in the scandal were sacked, charged and jailed, The Standard reported.
More than 100 civilians implicated in the scandal have also been prosecuted and their cases are being handled by the courts.
Mwathethe who was speaking when he launched this year's national military recruitment drive said Kenyans are still being conned and urged for vigilance and caution among interested recruits.
