Kenya hoteliers defy travel advisories

28 July 2014, 11:43

Nairobi - Hotels in the coastal towns of Kenya have come up with an ingenious way to attract tourists who wish to travel to the country from the United Kingdom despite the travel advisories issued by the European country.

Players in the industry said they had realized that many tourists especially from the UK wished to travel to the country despite the travel advisories albeit with inbound travel insurance.

Among them is Mohammed Hersi, the Chief Executive Officer of Heritage Hotels, who said they went ahead and secured inbound travel insurance covers for their clients from insurance companies that offered international insurance covers in Nairobi.

“The FCO (Foreign and Commonwealth Office) travel advisories mean British tourists cannot get Insurance cover from UK while on holiday in Mombasa and the Kenya coast Mtwapa to Tiwi. We are soon launching the inbound Insurance Cover for such visitors,” he said.

He added that the cover also includes evacuation.

“It will also include cover from any terrorism related attacks. In business you just can't sit and wait, we must think and think hard and fast enough. We still get British tourists without travel insurance and we now want to give them a peace of mind,” said Hersi.

The tourism industry has been greatly affected by the travel advisories that have been issued by the UK and other countries in the West due to the rising state of insecurity in the country.
