Kaimenyi denies University fee increase

Nairobi - Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi has denied claims that he ordered for the increase of tuition fees for students in all public universities.

He refuted the reports even as university students countrywide took to the streets to protest against the move, Capital News reports.
According to Kaimenyi, any fee increase must be initiated by University Councils, after a consultative process before it is endorsed by the Education Ministry and that no such process has been started.
The students want the fees reduced by half and study loans increased from the current cap of KES 60 000.
