21 May 2014, 21:53
Nairobi - The wife of Embu
Speaker Justus Kariuki Mate yesterday moved to court seeking to compel the
Director of Criminal Investigations and the Inspector General of Police to
Caroline Wangari wants her husband produced in court as she believes he is in police custody.
Wangari wants the court to summon
the Criminal investigations, Mr David Kimaiyo and the Starehe District Criminal
Investigating Officer to confirm whether Mr Kariuki is in police custody as
well an explanation of his arrest.
She further believes her
husband was arrested on Monday evening when he was last seen at Nairobi’s
Utalii Hotel within Starehe division.
The inquest comes in the midst of a power struggle between the Embu MCA and the Governor Martin Wambora.
The MCA has twice impeached Wambora over mismanagement of county affairs but there has been no direct link between the two cases.
" There is no link at the moment. Nothing has been decided and investigations are ongoing, a police source said.
Wangari claims to
have made appropriate inquiries at the Director of Criminal investigations and the district criminal investigating officer of Starehe but has not been able to access her husband.
The police are yet to officially comment on the allegations with the case to be heard starting Friday.
