Inmates protest over search for mobile phones in Kamiti

Kamiti - Prison warders clashed with some prisoners who had refused to surrender their mobile phones during a search at Kamiti Maximum Prison on Thursday morning.
According to prisons Commissioner General, Isaiah Osugo, the inmates refused to surrender the phones and attacked the warders who were carrying out the exercise, The Standard reports.
The officers were forced to shoot in the air to scare the inmates.
Osugo said the inmates were colluding with some warders using the phones to steal money from unsuspecting Kenyans.
