Nairobi - The boss James Oswago and three other officials have been arrested following corruption claims over procurement of the biometric voter kits, Capital News reports.
The Tuesday afternoon arrest by detectives from the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC), came after they were tasked with investigating how come the electoral body had purchased faulty equipment, after they failed to work during the March General Elections yet they were new purchases that cost the tax payers KES 1.3 billion.
Oswago, deputy commissioner Wilson Shollei, procurement manager Willy Kamanga and procurements director Edward Karrissa were in Naivasha, attending a workshop when arrested and were later driven to Nairobi, and will spend the night in custody awaiting a court to face charges on Wednesday.
In the past, Oswago, has questioned why the fraud body had singled him out for a probe over graft allegations, and denies any wrongdoing, and claimed that, “It is unfair to investigate an individual when the IEBC is constituted of several commissioners.”
