ICC witness: Homes were marked for torching

23 October 2013, 08:00

The Hague - The fifth witness in Deputy President William Ruto and former radio presenter Joshua Sang trial told the International Criminal Court (ICC) that marked property was spared from burning during the 2007/8 post election violence in Rift Valley.

According to witness P0487, the identifying mark ‘ODM 41’, which meant ODM was being supported by 41 tribes, was put on the property that was to be spared, Capital News reports.

He said the mark was written on the gate or on posts in order to be seen by the attackers.

Earlier this week, the fourth ICC witness disowned prosecution evidence against Ruto saying he did not attend an ODM campaign rally at 64 stadium in Eldoret where coded language was used.
