ICC trial will collapse - Ruto

13 September 2013, 22:01

Nairobi - Kenya deputy president William Ruto says he believes his case at the International Criminal Court will be dismissed.

Speaking at a rally in Kenya's central province Friday, Ruto thanked the crowd for their "prayers," saying "lies" against him would be exposed.

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, Ruto and a radio journalist named Joshua Arap Sang face charges of crimes against humanity for their alleged roles in violence that killed more than 1,000 people following a disputed presidential election in late 2007.

Ruto and Sang both pleaded not guilty when they made a court appearance at The Hague Tuesday for the start of their trial. Ruto returned to Kenya Thursday, and his case resumes next week.

Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda has said there were repeated deliberate attempts to undermine her case by intimidating witnesses.
