House committees faulted for clearing KDF over looting

Nairobi - Legislators doubt whether their colleagues in the parliamentary committees on Defence and National Security are competent enough to probe the last month terror attack at the Westgate Mall.
The MPs lashed out at the chairmen of the two committees after clearing Kenyan soldiers of looting allegations during the siege at the mall, Daily Nation reports.
Even after a CCTV video footage emerged showing the soldiers carrying plastic bags from Nakumatt supermarket located in the mall, Chief of Defence Forces Julius Karangi still maintains that no looting was done by the soldiers
He told Parliament that the army officers only took drinks from the supermarket "to quench their thirst."
Kenyans who had initially praised the troops for their courage in battling the attackers who killed at least 67 people were also infuriated by the video footage.
