Ruto: Harsh penalties for wildlife poachers soon
24 May 2013, 12:01
Nairobi - Capital News reports that plans are underway by the government to fast-track the Wildlife Bill that will make the killing of the Big Five a capital offence.
Speaking at a meeting of stakeholders in the tourism industry in his office on Thursday, Deputy President William Ruto said that he was concerned that the wanton poaching in the country was decimating elephants, lions, buffalos, rhinos and leopards at an alarming rate.
The Bill is expected to be a deterrent as it will attract more severe penalties for the poachers.
