Gunmen disarm police reservists in Lamu

11 July 2014, 08:07

Lamu - Tension is high at Pandaguo Village in Lamu after armed gangsters ambushed police reservists and made away with their guns Friday morning.

Six guns were stolen and several houses torched, including two classrooms at a local primary school.

According to Daily Nation, no casualties have been reported so far.

Lamu has been hit by a wave of violence, with over 100 residents having lost their lives to unknown assailants in a span of one month.

The attacks come a day after the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko sent a team of prosecutors from Nairobi to Mombasa to probe the massacres that have rocked the area.

Al Shabaab claimed responsibility for most of the attacks, but Muslim leaders blame land disputes saying the attackers might only be using Al Shabaab as a scapegoat.

Police have so far arrested over 100 suspects in connection with various attacks as investigations continue.
