Govt to spend KES 500m on Jubilee bash

13 September 2013, 11:11

Nairobi - The government is planning to spend KES 500 million to celebrate Kenya’s 50 years of independence.

This comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta disbanded a committee that  had proposed KES 2.5 billion be spent in preparations for the event and formed another one that will be chaired by Sports and Culture Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario, The Standard reports.

According to State House Spokesman Manoah Esipisu, the new figure was not as extravagant as the one proposed earlier. He however said that it may rise and will be forced to approach some private players to supplement it.
