Govt seek alternative to cable cuts

20 March 2012, 10:14

Nairobi - Information Permanent Secretary Bitange Ndemo announced that the government is building a system of fibre optic rings that will carry communication traffic in the event the fibre is severed.

Speaking to Capital News, Ndemo said that communications would be automatically re-routed around the failed area by way of the redundant ring thus ensuring that connectivity is not affecte, as traffic is re-routed to the other side of the ring immediately, thus reducing network disruptions to clients in Nairobi and Mombasa.

In the last four weeks witnessed more than five cable cuts which have negatively affected business operations with losses running into millions of shillings.
