Govt releases teachers' allowances

Nairobi - Teachers will at the end of this month receive KES 1.6 billion in allowances after they were backdated to July 1.
The amount was part of the agreement between the government and the Kenya National Union of Teachers to end the nationwide teachers’ strike that had paralysed learning in all public schools, The Standard reports.
The payments are being processed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and will see the lowest paid teachers get up to KES 37,000 on top of their monthly salary with the highest getting as much as KES 100,000.
