Govt embarks on resettling IDPs

05 September 2013, 16:12

Nairobi - The government has allocated KES 3.3 billion to resettle families that were displaced during the 2007/8 post election violence.

The displaced 8,298 families will each receive KES 400,000 to buy land as the government targets to close all camps by end of September. They will receive additional KES 10,000 to facilitate their departure from the camps, Daily Nation reports.

Displaced families in Eldoret, Mai Mahiu and Camp Kembu in Mau Forest will be the first to get the money and their camps closed on Saturday by President Kenyatta, his deputy William Ruto and other government officials.

According to Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru, the government had pledged to embark on the mission to see all the IDPs resettled to enable them start their lives afresh.
