Juba - Kenyans living in South Sudan and were caught up in the fighting between the supporters of President Salva Kiir and those of his former deputy Riek Machar have appealed to the government for evacuation.
Some Kenyans have taken refuge at the Kenyan mission in Juba, while others are still trapped in their homes and can’t escape since there are limited escape routes for civilians after the closure of the international airport, Daily Nation reports.
According to Foreign Affairs PS Karanja Kibicho, Kenya will ask for a safe route to evacuate its citizens if the situation worsens.
South Sudan's president said Monday the fighting was an attempted coup which had been defeated, with close to 70 people, mainly soldiers, reported to have been killed in the confrontation.
